Reno Omokri, a sociopolitical activist, claims that some politicians are upset with the Central Bank of Nigeria’s new withdrawal policy because they think that spending money to manipulate elections is acceptable.
As a step towards implementing its prior stance on a cashless society, the CBN released a new cash withdrawal policy on Tuesday, stating that withdrawals over N100,000 and N500,000 will henceforth be subject to 5% and 10% fees, respectively.
While some lawmakers and other politicians have spoken out against the new policy, the move is currently stirring up controversy among the public.
Omokri responded by writing on his official social media accounts that some politicians who use Bullion vans as an election strategy are the ones fighting the policy.
He said, “Of course, politicians who are used to using bullion vans to influence elections will not take kindly to the new CBN ATM limits. Bullion vans were their main election strategy. Now, Emefiele has suppressed such plans.
“It is only commonsensical to expect them to fight back. We all saw the photo behind the son of a notorious drug lord politician who said “Money Inducements”. Those are the enemies of ATM limits”.
