The governor of Zamfara State, Bello Matawalle, has asserted that “informats” are impeding the eradication of bandits in Nigeria.
Without informants, outlaws will be easily subdued in the nation, claims Matawalle.
The Governor made this statement on Monday when she welcomed five daughters of a former Zamfara Accountant-General who had been kidnapped and held captive for seven months.
The Commissioner of Police in Zamfara, Mr. Kolo Yusuf, and Assistant Inspector-General of Police, Zone 10, Mr. Bello Sani-Deljan, delivered them to Matawalle.
Recall that in March, thieves abducted the five girls from their Furfuri, Bungudu Local Government Area, house.
In October, the robbers posted a video to social media showing the girls with high-tech weapons and threatened to enlist them for robbery if the ransom required was not met.
However, a coordinated effort by the Police and other security personnel resulted in the girls’ uninjured rescue.
Matawalle, however, praised the security forces for their efforts and pleaded with them to eradicate banditry in the State.
According to intelligence reports, the girls were successfully stolen with the assistance of informants who were either family members or close friends, he said.
The state’s people were urged to “courageously fight informants by reporting suspected to the authorities without fear,” according to the governor.
“Without informants, bandits will be strongly incapacitated and will easily be defeated,’’ Matawalle said.
Before the girls were reunited with their family, the governor ordered that they be taken for the appropriate medical examinations and counseling.
