Mubarak Muhammad (Uniquepikin) and Nazifi Muhammad, two creators of TikTok skits for Kannywood, were given the order to be publicly flogged by a Kano magistrate court on Monday.
For allegedly defaming the persona of Kano’s governor, Abdullahi Ganduje, in one of their comedic routines, they have been detained in prison custody for weeks.
The magistrate, Aminu Gambari, issued a ruling on Monday that included several requirements, including that the two boys get 20 cane lashes each.
Additionally, the court ordered that the skit creators clean the magistrate building for a month and pay each N20,000 for “public disturbance.”
The court also ordered them to record another video apologizing to the governor in the same way as the one they had previously published by going back to their Tik Tok accounts and other social media sites.
Mr. Gambari expressed his hope that the punishment will serve as a deterrence to other social media users, encouraging them to respect other people’s integrity, particularly the integrity of elders.
Wadda Wadda, the prosecutor’s attorney, expressed his delight with the court’s ruling in the case and hoped that others would take note of it.
In a TikTok video sketch, Uniquepikin and Nazifi, who recently completed their NYSC, played the roles of an Islamic professor and his interpreter, respectively.
