The Osun State Independent Electoral Commission (OSIEC) has conducted a one-party local government election in Osun State, on Saturday.

The Osun State chapter of the All progressive congress (APC) is the only political party that participated in the election. The ballot papers carries no party symbols or identification but a space to thumbprint ‘YES’ or ‘NO’.

The voting exercise commenced around 09:00 early hours,The streets are filled with lots of onlookers who stayed at home due to the public holidays and restriction of movement as few numbers of voters come out to exercise their franchise.

Recall that the Chairman of OSIEC, Segun Oladitan has on Thursday said only one party indicated interest in the poll.

He however did not mention the name of the political party.

“As of three weeks, only one political party Signified its readiness to contest the election.”

Also, the Osun State Chapter of Allied People’s Movement (APM) has said it would not participate in the local Government Elections.

Hon Ezekiel Adegboyega, the APM Chairman made the declaration in a statement he signed and made available to journalists in Osogbo,on Friday.

“Following the directives given by the National Working Committee of Allied People’s Movement (APM) I want to declare openly that we are not going to participate in tomorrow local government election in Osun State.

“There are litigations already in the court and under no any reason must we take part in such a poll.

“I therefore urge members of APM to remain calm and stay off the polling units as the party will communicate the next line of action after the polls.”

Meanwhile, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and All People’s Party (APP) are in court with different litigations challenging OSIEC over the planned Saturday local government elections.

APM Chairman said decision not to participate in the polls came on the heel of the litigations instituted in the court by the opposition party.

Adegboyega further explained that the national working Committee of the party has instructed them not to participate in tomorrow’s local government election.

He urged all the party members in the state to stay off the polling units in their respective local Governments saying the party will know the next line of action after the polls.

It is on record that the Osun local government election has been a matter of controversy between the Osun chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), OSIEC and other parties.

He added that the election result would be made public at the end of the election on Saturday evening or by the morning of the next day.
