The Oyun Students’ Association (OSA), 2022 National Headquarters has called on Kwara State Government to see to the dilapidating infrastructures in schools in the local government.
OSA made this call during the grand finale of grand finale Of ‘My Future, My Career’, A Career Talk/Quiz it organized in Ilemona on Tuesday.
According to OSA President, Comrade AbdulRahman Nurudeen Olayinka, the Union has toured selected schools in the local government and displeased at the dilapidating infrastructures, nonexisting technological support and short of staffers.
Olayinka, who was ably represented by Muhammad Khalillulah, OSA General Secretary said that, “on the Infrastructural development, we saw a lot of lapses in structures that serve as classrooms at AUD Ijagbo. In Ipee, they need environmental protection and sanitation as bushes are stone throw from the academic side. Their library and laboratories need dire attention.
“Also, GSS Igosun’s Hall needs total rehabilitation, there was no giddy window, chairs, no computer systems, printer and related equipment.
“In Ilemona, the Oyun Local Government Secondary School can not boast of a structural structure. We were made to ó understand that they once written the The TIC Chairman and he obliged.
“In Irra, even management block is leaking! This is the same block that accommodates the principal, his vice, bursal and all. They are already about to seek the intervention of the Old Students Association.
“Ahogbada school’s roof has carved in.
“And Igbonna’s school has no ceiling, the corrugated iron roofing sheets are also leaking!
“On technological support, everywhere we went experience this problem. How do I mean? It is sardonic that in this century and this year 2022, not a single school we visited in this local government can boast of a single computer set.
“This has grossly denied the students access to technological knowledge which is beyond sacrosanct in this age.
“We also noticed shortage of staff members in most of these schools, especially in Ilemona and Igbonna.
“We wish these will all be conveyed to the concerned persons and governmental agencies.
“We seek quick intervention as the national body representing the Oyun local government students. We also plead with those who are in the position of authority, traditionally, political and religious to come to the aid of our schools.”
In his response, the Caretaker Chairman of Oyun local government, Dr. Ibrahim Olaitan Abdulwaheed said the government has taken due notice of these issues and are addressing them.
Dr. Ibrahim continued to reinstate the Kwara State’s commitment to educational development in the state.

Today we are gathered at the grand finale of one of the strides of our great association, The Oyun Students’ Association (OSA) towards the rejuvenation of the educational sector of our towns.
It is a stride. It is as well as a promise. A promise to make the best of our present positions to serve our communities, our families and our brothers and sisters who will be where we are today. We promised to extend our hands and lend voices – to the very best of our capabilities – to the provision of efficient and capable representation for them.
Today’s programme, “My Future, My Career” is a display of such solemnity.
This administration, some two weeks ago, took it upon itself to constitute a six-man committee to bring the initiative into fruition. Members of the committee were drawn from the executive and the legislative arms of the OSA.
Members of this committee submitted letters of notification to selected secondary schools across the 11 wards in Oyun local government. These are Ansar-Ud-Deen College, Ijagbo; Government Secondary School (GSS), Ipee; Government Secondary School (GSS), Igosun; Christ Comprehensive College, Erin-Ile; Erin-Ile Secondary School (ESS), Erin-Ile; Oyun Local Government Secondary School, Ilemona; Iraa Grammar School, Iraa; Ojoku Grammar School (OGS), Ojoku; Ansar-Islam College, Ikotun-Ile; Government Secondary School, Igbonna and Oyun Local Government Secondary School, Ahogbada.
Most, if not all, of journeys to these places were done by the General Secretary of OSA, Muhammad Khalillullah and his assistant, Comrade Sulayman Umar Faruq. The duo greatly set aside personal comfort and convenience.
We kick-started on the 11th of October at Ansar-Ud-Deen College in Ijagbo. We subsequently went to Government Secondary School (GSS) in Ipee.
On the second day, which was the 12th of October, 2022, we went to Government Secondary School (GSS), Igosun and from there Erin-Ile; Erin-Ile Secondary School (ESS), Erin-Ile. We later went to Christ Comprehensive College in the same town.
This was the same day we met with THE Caretaker Chairman of this local government in the Secretariat in Ilemona, Dr. Ibrahim Olaitan Abdulwaheed.
On the 13th, we went to Oyun Local Government Secondary School in Ilemona, Iraa and Ahogbada.
On the 14th, we toured Ojoku, Ikotun and Igbonna.
We were received by accommodating staffers of each school. We spoke about their yearnings, concerns and aspirations. They made the students available. We perceived willingness in all of the students. We were able to interact with them and they reacted proactively.
RECOMMENDATIONS
In lieu of the above we hereby categorize our requests-cum-recommendations into three;
1. Infrastructural Development.
2. Technological Development.
3. Staffers.
