Honourable Bukoye Marooph Bintinlaye has applauded Nigerians for their unwavering resolve to build a better, stronger, safer, and more prosperous society despite the setbacks in the effort to enshrine stronger democratic values in the nation.
He also enjoined the citizenry to remain united irrespective of their religious and ethnic leanings.
In his Democracy Day wishes, the Chieftain of the People’s Democratic Party in Kwara State, “every October 1st is a day that serves as a reminder to all citizens of the diversity and resiliency of the individuals who make up our country.
“As the saying goes, we are only as strong as we are united, as weak as we are divided. Nigerians have traveled far and wide, having an impact on their communities and the world at large.
“Nigerians must remember the immense sacrifice of our heroes as we mark the significance of Democracy Day and appreciate the bravery and tenacity of all Nigerians.
“Our sincere hope is that as we fight to rebuild Nigeria by electing strong leaders the following year, our country and all of its citizens would enjoy the much-desired prosperity and peace that Nigerians have been clamoring for.
“We must maintain this mature approach to campaigning and, eventually, voting as we enter the general election campaign season. Never should we consider it a “do or die” situation. We must all keep in mind that democracy is about the majority’s will. Winners and losers are necessary.
“So let’s utilize this chance on this very important day to implore all candidates to keep conducting issue-focused campaigns and to be respectful to their opponents. They must all exhibit strong moral character as leaders, and never lose sight of the fact that Africa looks to Nigeria as an example of good administration while the world is watching. It’s inevitable that followers will adopt the same attitude leaders do at the top.”
Bintinlaye thereafter asked all Nigerians of voting age to ensure they have their Permanent Voters’ Cards, PVCs to exercise their civic responsibility by partaking in the general elections.
