Bamidele Salam, a member house of representatives, has on Monday, described state governors as killers of local government as 95% of them do not want it to exist at all.
He stated this in his lecture as the guest speaker delivered, at the 2022 annual lecture organized by the Nigerian Union of Journalist(NUJ) Osun state Council, Osogbo.
Salam who is representing Ede North/Ede South/Egbedore/Ejigbo constituency in the 9th National Assembly identified the Local Government as the closet arm of government to the people.
According to him “I was a local government chairman, today if you go to local government in Osun you’ll weep, local government can not paint its building.
“Local government system had been paralyzed by the same constitution that gives with one hand and takes back with the other hand, it then gives the national Assembly to make laws, to regulates the functions which they are.
“But it is the governors of the states that are the killers 95% of the governors they do not want local government to exist at all so at the funds comes from the federation account, they can house the money somewhere and decide on how the money is allocated”
