The Nigerian Institute of Architects has been urged to work with other experts in the built environment to improve Nigeria’s infrastructure stock for national development by Vice President Professor Yemi Osinbajo.
Osinbajo recently brought up the rapid population expansion in Nigeria and Abuja when discussing the objectives of the National Infrastructure Plan at the annual conference of the Nigerian Institute of Architects, Archibuilt Expo 2022.
According to Professor Osinbajo, the consequence is that the requirement for innovative and sustainable infrastructure development is a “categorical imperative.” Both the public and private sectors now have even stronger incentives to engage in infrastructure projects like building new roads, railroads, energy pipelines, and other industries.
The Vice President claimed that increasing the nation’s infrastructure stock by at least 70% is the best practice worldwide and that this is the aim of the administration’s National Infrastructure Plan.

Vice President Yemi Osinbajo, GCON, was welcomed to the Julius Berger AFP exposition pavilion at the event site by Mr. Oliver Cohnen, General Manager of Julius Berger AFP, who also led the company’s team to the conference. The Vice President praised APF’s product quality and urged AFP to continue providing excellent products and services. Oliver Cohnen expressed his gratitude to the Vice President for his nice words of support for AFP and for his kind visit.
Along with the Honourable Minister for Water Resources, other notable dignitaries who attended the conference and exhibition included the Honourable Minister for Finance, Budget, and Planning, Hajiya Zainab Ahmed, and her husband, Architect Shamsudeen. The event, which took place at the Shehu Musa Yar’Adu Centre Abuja, was attended by the National Coordinator of Nigeria’s Social Investment Programme, Dr. Umar B. Bindir, Professor Uche Uwaleke, an advocate for the use of Infrastructure Bonds for infrastructural development, the President of the Sierra Leonean Institute of Architects, and the current and past presidents of the NIA.
