As gasoline marketers deal with the terrible state of the roads, there may be a disruption in the supply of petroleum products to Ekiti State in the coming days.
Evangelist Olu Olobele, the chairman of the Petroleum Dealers Association of Nigeria’s Ekiti State branch, dropped the hint yesterday while surveying the shoddy state of the highways connecting Ekiti with neighboring states.
He expressed regret that several of their vehicles carrying petroleum supplies into the state were stranded there.
Olobele voiced concern that if immediate action was not taken to improve the roads, it might impede the efficient supply and distribution of fuel to the state, resulting in a shortage of fuel.
He said: “The association wishes to draw the attention of the government to the deplorable condition of roads in the state.
“It’s inarguable that major roads leading to the state are in a sorry state. This is indeed a sorry situation. There are no alternative routes for us because Ekiti is cut off and this is affecting the economy.
“I’m afraid, we would have to witness shortage in supply because when our vehicles are unable to get here, I wonder what we will dispense to customers.”
Mrs. Modupe Akinola, the association’s deputy chairman, encouraged the Federal Ministry of Works and the Federal Road Maintenance Agency to resolve the issue.
Alhaji Suleiman Akinbami, the association’s chairman of the board of trustees, bemoaned the fact that several vehicles carrying petroleum goods fell between Ado-Ekiti and Akure, wasting millions of naira’s worth of gasoline.
