The current security alert is false, according to the Inspector General of Police, Akali Baba Usman, who also exhorts the public to always convey pertinent information to the police before making it known to the public.
According to The PUNCH, the governments of the United States and the United Kingdom had issued a security notice, advising their residents to avoid Abuja due to a planned terrorist strike.
In Ibusa, Oshimili North Local Government Area of Delta State, the IGP made this declaration on Saturday during the opening of a contemporary police station and barracks.
He said, “How can you entered the country and said there is security alert, you didn’t inform police, and you go around telling your people don’t go to Abuja, return from Abuja.
“When you have information on security, it is proper to inform the police and we will find way to tackle it, instead of taking it to the public.
“I am urging media not to help them spread such information. We are working in synergy with other security agencies to ensure the safety of residents”
According to the IGP, six geopolitical zones were used in the construction of the contemporary police stations and barracks.
He asked the neighborhood to adopt ownership of the projects, saying that since public funds were used to build them, they should be protected.
He pleaded with them not to damage the building while they were having problems with the police, pointing out that the station would have CCTV cameras that would be visible for at least two kilometers.
Ali Mohammed, the commissioner of police for Delta State, praised the IGP for the building and other significant accomplishments since taking office.
He claimed that the act will not only inspire higher performance but also assist in easing their difficulties.
