Lois Azurfa, the youngest of the 23 passengers on the kidnapped passenger of the Abuja-Kaduna train, was recently released. John, who one of the terrorists’ commanders was reportedly preparing to forcibly wed, has claimed that the marriage proposal was only a simple offer that she declined.
The terrorists’ commander never pushed Miss John to accept the marriage proposal, according to Miss John, who spoke yesterday from her hospital bed.
Miss John claimed yesterday that the terrorists had made marriage proposals to several of the female hostages, but that each of them had declined. No one was ever made to accept through force.
Since they were freed on Wednesday, Lois, who had undergone blood transfusions and was still in the hospital, stated that while she initially believed she would never leave the terrorists’ hideout, now that she has, she has forgiven her captors.
“We walked a distance that night before bikes came. Then, they took us to where we spent that night. We journeyed for four days before we got to where they dropped us, that is their main camp.
“We cook in the morning and in the evening. We eat twice a day. Anytime we are sick, they gave us drugs. The terrorists have medical doctors who come around to provide medical care for us.”
Unexpectedly, word of our departure from the camp arrived. We were instructed to begin packing by the terrorists. After a week of preparation, they finally asked us to move and turned us over to the Presidential Committee on the last day.
