The people of Ipetu-Ijesha has pleaded with the Osun State Governor, Gboyega Oyetola and Federal Government of Nigeria to put a stop to the menace of hoodlums attacks due to bad road.
Ipetu-Ijesa is in Oriade local government area of Osun State.
According to the residents of the town, the road which has been in dilapidated state for three years is said to have become hideout for hoodlums where they would stop drivers and pedestrians to loot them of their possessions.
The chairman of the local government, Hon. Oladeji Benedict in an interview on Friday said the road is a federal road and has been left unrepaired for the past three years.
Speaking about the latest attack by hoodlums on October 12, he claimed that peace had already been restored when he arrived the scene while he begged the federal government to intervene and assist in repairing the road.
He also pleaded with the people to support the government by paying their tax and alert the security officials if they notice any unusual movement.
Meanwhile, the chairman of the National Union of Roads Transport Workers, (NURTW) Comrade Olaniyan Idris said the road has been causing problems for villagers especially farmers and traders, as they no longer come from their various places to trade their goods in Ipetu-Ijesa due to the state of the road and fear of kidnappers.
As at the time of filing this report, some men led by NURTW chairman are on the road to ensure free movement of vehicles.
Additionally, journalists also spoke with motorist and villagers and they begged the government for help because thier lives and properties is at stake.
