Over 5,000 PDP members switched allegiances to the All Progressives Congress (APC), which is currently in power in Lagos.
They were supporters of Olajide Adediran, also known as Jandor, the governorship candidate, and members of the “Lagos for Lagos” Movement.
The defectors assaulted the APC office in Ogba, Ikeja, with their brooms, chanting, and dancing while wearing matching orange T-shirts and fez caps.
Obafemi Hamzat, the deputy governor, and Pastor Cornelius Ojelabi, the party’s chairman, welcomed them.
While anyone could be deceived, according to Dr. Hamzat, continuing in the wrong road after finding the right path was stupidity.
The APC flags were given to the defectors by Hamzat, who praised them for returning to the party after leaving.
They wouldn’t regret their choice, he assured them.
Hamzat said: “The state is moving in a right direction. This is the right decision. Asiwaju Bola Tinubu has the eye of talents and ability to manage people.
“This is the time for us to vote for someone that knows the way. It is good you retraced yourselves. I must tell you that you have made the right decision.
“It is people that make towns, cities and countries great. I am excited that you have seen the reason to support Asiwaju.”
Ojelabi expressed gratitude to the defectors for feeling the need to join the progressive family.
He claimed that the APC-led administration has prioritized resident welfare and enhanced infrastructure.
“Thank you for finding it necessary to be part of the progressive family and process of developing Lagos State.
“You have taken a right decision by coming home to be part of the process. This is your party. You are not going to regret this step,” Ojelabi said.
The APC chairman asked the locals to support APC candidates in the general election of 2023 in order to use their ballots to hasten further advancement and development.
Idowu Daramola, the organization’s head, claimed that once Adediran switched to the PDP, the group felt let down and returned to the APC.
Other leaders of the defectors, including Mr. Ahmed Mefeola, chairman of the Jandor Legacy Forum, and Mr. Tunde Kazeem, the South Africa coordinator, claimed they had spent a significant amount of money on the Lagos4Lagos Movement before returning to the party.
