A scuffle between police officers and Kalare boys on Sunday in Gombe resulted in two confirmed injuries.

The two casualties, a kid from Kalare and a female bystander, have been taken to the Federal Teaching Hospital for treatment, according to ASP Mahi Mu’azu Abubakar, a spokesman for the Gombe police who verified the event.

According to him, the incident happened when a gang of approximately 50 Kalare guys from the Kwala Street Jekadafari areas stopped the roads leading to the central roundabout and terrorized bystanders while brandishing machetes, daggers, clubs, and other hazardous weapons.

“On receipt of the distress call, the teams responded immediately, moved to the scene of crime and made effort to disperse the hooligans with the use of minimal force, but declined by the gang which resorted to attacks on the team which prompted the use of additional force on them.

“As a result, one of the thugs ( kalare boys) and a woman who was a passerby sustained injuries and are presently responding to treatment at Federal Teaching Hospital Gombe,” he said.

Ishola Babaita, the commissioner of police in Gombe, issued a warning against all types of hooliganism and thuggery before, during, and after the electioneering activities in the State to anyone with criminal intentions.

Any wrongdoer, he claimed, will face appropriate punishment.
