Justice Olukayode Ariwoola, the acting Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN), is now being vetted by the Senate.
This came after Senator Ibrahim Gobir, the Senate Leader, made two moves in that direction on the Senate floor at 11:35 a.m.
The screening procedure was requested to be moved forward from where it was stated on the order paper by Senate President Ahmad Lawan.
Gobir made a motion for the Senate to convene the Committee of the Whole to undertake the screening and suspend any applicable laws to permit the entrance of acting Chief Justice Ariwoola and his entourage.
The acting Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN) Ariwoola then entered the chambers and took a seat, followed by all Justices of the Supreme Court, the President of the Court of Appeal, the President of the Federal High Court, the President of the National Industrial Court (NIC), and the Secretary of the National Judicial Council (NJC).
Senator Babajide Omoworare, Special Adviser to the President on National Assembly Matters, served as the delegation’s leader.
