In a bid to help the vulnerable in the society, a nongovernmental organization under the aegis of Centre for Life Support Mission (CELSUM) has donated medical supplies to Aro community medical center in Egbedore local government area of Osun State.
Donated medicines are paracetamol, vitamin c, septrin, flagyl syrup for a day old child and children, bco, folic acid, ferous for pregnant women, paracetamol, bco, vitamin c, flagyl, contact, septrin tablets for old and young, BP drugs among others.
Speaking during the donation on Thursday, the Alaro of Aro, Oba Abdul-Jelil Oyeyemi Oyedokun lauded the project, saying he enjoined other people to emulate the gesture.
In his words, “this donation goes a long way to motivate as well as sensitize us. They also brought different types of medicines to rejuvenate and resuscitate our medical center. This will subsided our patronage to neighbouring communities’ medical services.”
Furthermore, the officer in charge of the facility, Mrs Adebayo Olufunke said, “I am very happy about the medicines brought to us. They are the major reasons people don’t visit the facility.
“Those that visit the facility were always given prescriptions to go and buy elsewhere, but they will get for free now.”
Also speaking, the director of CELSUM, Mrs. Akinsola Oluyemisi said the donation was geared by the NGO’s commitment to help the vulnerable, orphans, widows and communities that need support, and to show them care and love.
Akinsola, represented by Ms Ogungbemi Blessing Ewaoluwa, the programme officer at CELSUM added that “the initiative behind the donation is to give out humanitarian care and support at the community level. This will be a form of impacting the growth and development on the community and to avoid the closure of the medical facility given to the community by the government.
“The whole idea was to render humanitarian service to the community and to make impacts. I am motivating and gesticulating to the government that people in the rural areas are in dire need of the government’s interventions on social amenities.
“We also want to bring smiles to the faces of the people in the community through the outreach,” she said.
Another member of the team, Mr Kareem AKolade, who is the community representative, stated that with the availability of the medicines, there will be increased usage of the facility by the residents.
CELSUM subsequently challenged the youths and other CSOs in Osun state to also reach out to the rural areas with developmental projects.
The Alaro of Aro thereafter prayed that God shall replenish the pulse of all that contributed to the project.
“Those that have been coming to check on us from Osogbo, Mr.Taiwo, Ms Ogungbemi Blessing Ewaoluwa and Ms Adepoju Damilola that came together and bought these medicines, we pray their pockets will not dry.”
Oba Oyedokun also donated a Blood Pressure Monitor for the facility to support the donation.
Recall that CELSUM members had visited Aro Community on the directive of the Civil Society in Malaria Control, Immunization and Nutrition (ACOMIN) and discovered that there was little or limited patronage at the facility.
This was found to be facilitated by lack of support medication aside from malaria’s.
Ms. Ogungbemi said, “through an advocacy efforts of the Community Accountability Team of ACOMIN, several visits were conducted to the Community stakeholders for resolution.
“As part of the effort of the CELSUM in conjunction with her CAT members who implement at Aro health facility purchased and donated some medicines to support the community and the facility for qualitative healthcare service delivery.
“The commitment made by the king to purchase BP Apparatus to the medical facility was also fulfilled. This decision was triggered and pushed due to the great commitment made by the CAT members.
“ACOMIN will continue to engage, involve and ensure maximum participation of the Aro community stakeholders in the ownership of their health facilities on the CLM project.”
