Three people were charged by the Osun Police on Tuesday for allegedly breaking into the Alwao of Awo’s palace and having dangerous weapons in their possession.
Adebayo Mutiu, 40, Sikiru Oloyede, 46, and Habib Oloyede, 28, make up the three.
According to ASP John Idoko, the police prosecutor, the defendants committed the crime on August 26 at around 10 am in the Alawo Palace.
In his words, “They invaded the palace of Awo with intent to dethrone the Alawo of Awo, Oba Abdulrazaq Adeboye and threatened to kill him.
”They wielded dangerous weapons which left some residents of Awo town in a fearful and panic mode.”
The prosecutor said the offence contravened sections 516, 42, 86, 70, and 249 (d) of the Criminal Code Cap 34 vol.11, Laws of Osun State, 2002.
Six counts of conspiracy, public peace violation, illegal possession of hazardous weapons, and death threat were brought against the defendants.
Kehinde Adesiyan, the defense attorney, pleaded with the judge to grant bail on the most lenient terms possible for his clients.
The defendants were granted bail in the amount of N2 million, along with two sureties in the same amount, by the presiding magistrate, A.A. Adeyeba.
Adeyeba noted that the sureties had to show proof of paying taxes and an affidavit of means in addition to the need that one of them be a famous Awo town resident.
The case was continued for mention until October 12.
