Bandits, terrorists, and kidnappers have all been successfully neutralized in Nigeria, according to Lai Mohammed, minister of information and culture.
Mohammed remarked this while asking media professionals to step up their efforts in order to fulfill their legal and ethical obligations in the national good.
He added that security agents have begun to see progress since receiving the president’s directive to track down, confront, and speak with terrorists.
The National Institute for Cultural Orientation’s two-day National Conference on Culture, Peace, and National Security: “The Role of the Media,” which the minister made the appeal for, began on Tuesday in Kano (NICO).
Mrs. Maimuna Idu-Lah, the ministry’s director of international cultural relations, acted as Mohammed’s representative.
“It is against this background that the role of critical stakeholders, especially the media, cannot be overemphasised.
“Skewed reporting, as well as the phenomenon of fake news, hate speech and misinformation, has the capacity to worsen the security situation.
“They do not only create fear among the citizens but can also adversely affect the morale of our security personnel.
“We, therefore, appeal to our media practitioners to accord national interest priority in the discharge of their constitutional and professional duties,” he said.
“The military has recorded successes in neutralising bandits, terrorists, kidnappers and other criminals across the country,” he added.
Mohammed claimed that in addition to spending a lot of money on security equipment, Mr. President had sent legislation to the National Assembly on the control of small guns and light weapons as well as the transmission of explosives.
