…. Commends Police Command

Kwara State Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq has been advised to pay rapt and undivided attention to the security of the people of the state.

A chieftain of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in the state, Honourable Bukoye Marooph Bintinlaye stated this in a statement signed by his Media Aide and made available to journalists on Wednesday.

Honourable Bintinlaye, reacting to the abduction of ten persons along Obbo-Ile/Osi road in the Ekiti Local Government Area of Kwara State, said Kwara State no longer enjoyed security it was known for.

He charged AbdulRahman to wake up to his constitution responsibility of protect life property being the chief security of the state.

In his words, “it is saddening that Kwara State has come under the aegis of insecurity. There has been upsurge in kidnapping and killings around the Kwara South axis in the state.

“The incumbent Governor needs to pay undivided attention to the security of Kwarans.

“Up until recently, there were fewer complaints of banditry and kidnapping in Kwara, than in the rest of the country. This year, more unreported cases of kidnapping and banditry have been reported in Kwara State’s three senatorial districts, including the state capital Ilorin.

“Recall that a Chinese National was abducted in Shao, Moro Local Government last month. The gunmen, who attacked workers at the Quarry, shot dead a Police Inspector and injured another officer, while the Chinese citizen was taken away.

“Kwara State Police Command arrested two suspected ritualists, armed robbers and kidnappers who the police say have been terrorising Obbo Ayegunle for some time, kidnapping people for blood money rituals in May.

In March, Kwara police allegedly killed three suspected kidnappers during a gun duel. This same month, Mrs. Olomo Sunday, an APC woman leader in the Koro ward of the Ekiti Local Government Area, was slain while a squad of local vigilantes and police trying to save several victims who had been abducted. Her passing came after that of Kemi Afolayan, a farmer who had been kidnapped along the same axis and presumably killed after his captors had received some of the ransom sought.

“Also, Gunmen suspected to be bandits also abducted five persons in separate attacks in Asa and Ekiti Local Government Areas of the state in January, 2022. Same month two men were remanded by a magistrate court sitting in Ilorin, Kwara State for allegedly attacked a police station to free their friends detained in custody at Share, headquarters of Ifelodun Local Government Area of the state.

“A district head, the Mogaji Erubu in Ilorin Emirate, Dr Zubair Erubu, was kidnapped in December, 2021.

“In November, 2021 a brother to the aide of former President Goodluck Jonathan, Olujala Adegboja, and eight other people were kidnapped by gunmen in Olla in the Isin local government area, while eight factory workers were kidnapped at Sosoki, near Alapa, in the Asa Local Government Area of the state.

“Furthermore, five royal members of the household of a monarch were kidnapped in October, 2021.

“On the evening of Saturday, August 7, 2021, two kidnapping occurrences took place between the Kwara-Ekiti axis and resulted in the abduction of thirteen people, including seven wedding guests, a pastor, and his wife. Another incident involving a pastor, his wife, and four other people was reported between Ekan-Meje in Oke-Ero Local Government Area of Kwara State and Ekiti State on the same day.”

Honourable Marooph Bintinlaye however commended the Kwara State Police Command for their resilience in fishing out perpetrators of evils in the state.
