The Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq-led administration has been criticized over the protest of 1056 Police Constabularies at the Kwara State Government House.
Honourable Marooph Bintinlaye, a chieftain of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in the state stated in a statement signed by his Media Aide on Monday.
It would be recalled that one thousand and fifty six (1056) police constabularies protested their lack of payment, allowances or stipends for one year and six months (18 months) by the Kwara State government.
In his reaction, Bintinlaye said it is sardonic that the Police Constabularies who put their lives and luxury on hold for the security of the state should be subject to such demeaning situations.
“When my attention was called to the police constabularies protest I was reeling with dismay and a great deal of concern for these persons subject to avoidable suffering from the Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq-led governance. It is sardonic that constabulary police officers who performed admirably in their numerous policing assignments at respective divisions, where they apprehended suspects in armed robberies and burglaries as well as ritualists should be ridiculously treated.
“Indeed, it’s a saddening situation.
“It should be remembered that when these gallant constabulary members were engaged, they spent an entire month receiving policing training at the police training school. They were fed three times a day using money from the police headquarters and Kwara state government matching monies. All 1,056 personnel of the constabulary were assigned to different police divisions throughout the state after a month of training.
“More woeful is the fact that these persons have been disowned by the Abuja Headquarters and Kwara State Command. By making it plain that they would not be accountable for the wellbeing of the constabulary members, Abuja’s police headquarters has cleared themselves. The constabulary were not regular police officers, and as a result, they were not under the control of the Nigeria Police force, according to a statement from the police headquarters in Ilorin.”
Honourable Marooph Bintinlaye added his position on the callousness of the present Kwara administration is reinforced by the three options the state government allegedly avail the constabularies.
It is reported that the Special Adviser on security invited them for a meeting wherein he proposed that they elect to be employed by the Nigeria Police force, if they so qualify; elect to return to their former jobs before being engaged as police constabulary and they will be given “empowerment” of God knows, how much or continue to rough it out without salary or allowances.
Bintinlaye then urged the governor of Kwara state, Mal. Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq, to take the necessary action to improve our security by using the legally allocated security votes for their intended purpose rather than abusing them, as has been reported, to support his pursuit for a second term.
