INTRODUCTION OF YOURSELF
I’m VRSD (pronounced’versed’), born Alagbe Marvelous.
I’m a Nigerian multidisciplinary artiste functioning as a recording and performing artiste, writer, content creator and curator. I hail from Ogbomoso, Oyo State, Nigeria.
YOUR JOURNEY INTO MUSIC
I grew up in a house diverse genre of music were played growing up. I have always loved music since I was kid. I was in my old church choir for a bit too. But making music wasn’t in the picture, until around I was 13 or 14 years old when I penned my first rap verse, biting Dagrin’s “Democrazy” song.
I started my career professionally in 2018, when I dropped my first single, BABIES featuring LammyKate on a Sir Bastien’s production, and I’ve tried to keep the fire burning since then. Often times, my style and approaches to music have been described as original and unorthodox— bridging a gap between rap and spoken word.
YOUR RELEASED SONGS
Very early in 2019, I teamed up with the veteran Hip-Hop producer, Bionic the Soul King to put out a collabo effort, COME ALIVE, which turned out to be a single on their joint EP, HOMEMADE that came out in November, 2020. A month after, in December, I put out another collaborative project with Blvck Topia. We titled it “Paints and Palettes”. Since then, I didn’t put out anything. Just been experiencing things, learning and focused on getting better on my craft. My first single, titled “Kokoka” in while came out 1st of July this year.
YOUR MOST FAVORITE MOMENT AS A SINGER
Don’t think I can really pinpoint to a favourite moment as an artiste, but some weeks ago, a kid ran after me just to tell me Kokoka, my single is great. Apparently he had been calling me, but I didn’t hear because I had earpiece plugged to my ears. I was very happy, and remembering it is a moment I savour so much and it makes me feels I am doing something right.
YOUR SADDEST MOMENT
I can count few instances on a hand that are possibly my saddest moments as an artiste. They are one disappointments or the other. Failed promises. Other parties not holding to their end of the bargain and stuff like that. But they make me tougher.
YOUR BEST MOTIVATION
I find motivation from different places. I wake up everyday to get better at my craft and as a human being, and in the process I find my progress s— it is a bigger motivation than you think. Feedbacks, comments and reactions to my music keep me going too.
WHAT YOU LOOK FORWARD TO
I look forward to prosperous, legendary and fulfilling long career of creating incredible things; music, art, films, poems and anthropologies, clothes and designs. I look forward to having a long life, look back, see I did everything I set out to do, and rest in happiness and fulfilments.
