Internet fraud, code-named “Yahoo Yahoo” in Nigeria, is reminiscent of the first popular mode in which internet fraud got its first true exposure, which was through Yahoo mail long before the proliferation of Facebook as a social media thing.
It begins as a thing only those in the upper-class layer of the society living a certain lifestyle and with access to certain knowledge, of how the internet works were privy to.
With the proliferation of technology and the ease of access to information brought upon by Social media platforms that cut across countries, internet fraud took on a new penetrative and easier form that is all-embracing; encompassing almost all the societal structures so far you have an internet enabled phone and you are willing to get dirty and scheming.
Before internet fraud became a thing, two major societal ills encapsulate crime and monetary gains.
In the world of youth, they were two inspiring morsels that have been encouraging vice, bloodshed, and feud long in the society.
They are thuggery and cultism. Both of which were regarded and used as political tools with admission being strictly through ‘ruggedity’. A prerequisite that many fall below the pass mark not until Yahoo Yahoo came into the picture.
The aim is big money less stress and risk.
There have been arguments and counterarguments dating back to when internet fraud of a thing first received his great boon.
Between two evil, one is more favorable and economically friendly compared to the other.
And in this case, the argument majorly in support of Yahoo Yahoo being a better alternative has to do with the proximity of the vice committed.
“They are taking back money they stole from our ancestors”
If there is one thing I have learned about evil and vice, it will be in the realization that “evil is a seed that grows fast in any given environment so far it is planted or even dropped casually”.
In truth, there has been a great reduction in cult clashes and thug wars for some years past now save for the occasional nightclub friction resulting from competing with money, exotic things bought, and other frivolities that hardly cost a life.
If you have been wondering for how long this might last, the answer is not that far-fetched. A child will grow, and the stupid will one day be knowledgeable from multiple failed experiences.
For some months now, there has been a major Spike in ritual killing and kidnapping. If you guess, I am sure Your guess is not as far from mine.
The prodigal sons are back, and with a larger appetite to boot from their days of expensive exposure to a larger than life lifestyle not easily maintained this days due to many life factors that hinder the smooth operation of their vice, both foreign and locally; and they have, in their submission, return and resolve to more vicious vice to maintain the silky appearance they are used to.
Unfortunately, the blood does not spill far from the butchered. The skin of the drum we drummed favourably in their support is what we now removed to bury our butchered relatives because the proverbial prodigal sons are back home to roost from their days of booze and high spending.
The spiral effect of their wanton carnage not only affect us all economically but also birth a multiple headed hydra of numerous innovative vice for the society to handle.
And we seems to be handling it well; waking up to sorrowful dirge and colors of blood and grief.
A serving corper was recently abducted and butchered. I wonder who will be the next?
