In one of my recent columns, I once admitted that we have a good officers in Nigeria police force, so otherwise. Early last month, a clip of a brave, agile and competent officer of the Nigeria police force surfaced online ; whereby he was able to incarcerated an armed robber with A.k47 riffle in his hand before the other officers came to support him. Critically looking the clips, one would see that the oath made by the officer during his forebearing as a Nigeria police officer was uphold to and it’s a lifeline courage to other officers.
Ineptly speaking, child displacement is a subset of child abuse that needs to be care and cater for by the Nigeria government. Many of these children lost their dreams at a tender age, due to lack of parental care and moral control, together with poverty. While the few roaming the street lives without proper hygiene – pathetically, most of this children lives on $0.70 a day ( #290 ),they hardly sees a good taste of food not to talk of good water to quench their taste.
So sad! I stumbled on Timileyin at General hospital junction in Offa, he was begging the passersby for stipends to feed his agape stomach. He’s indecently dressed; wearing a taterd clothes with a gory look of beggar, his sorrow outshine his happiness, merely looking his face someone would know that Timileyin lost all the child rights he deserves right from the on set. May God forgive me! I once judged many other children like him without knowing what life has thrown at them.
Most of this children are homeless but not hopeless – apology to “Sola Owonibi”, after my interrogation with Timileyin one would discovered that these street children are more intelligent more than what the society think of them. Standing with him, a Nigerian police officer came to interfere and asked some lite questions from him. Sigh! Timileyin burst into tears as he eventually described himself as a disguise orphanage. He said ” I lost my dad at three, I neither know him, not to talk of my mom, that has no job for the past months, so it has been so hard for us to eat a meal. I have no any other hope of living except this”. Sigh!
Pathetically the humanitarian police officer asked the boy to check on him later in the day, possibly to support his affairs. Countless times, percentages of citizen has judged Nigeria policemen to be incongruous, savage, brutal and ungodly. Likewise, such judgment has been bequeathed on the street children begging the publics for survival. Thinking alongside Carl jung, a psychologist whom assumed thinking to be a very difficult task, which enables man to judge easily.
Painstakingly, judging these children will not change them, it will only add up to their difficulties and make them less render to the society. Most of them know nothing of what they are going through or their way of life – they are just victims of circumstances, the society can help them through non-governmental organizations, government agencies that are responsible for the child rights supports, and individuals that believes in the words of the late Chief Obafemi Awolowo”, The children of the poor you failed to train will never let your children have peace”.
