The remembrance of Chief Moshood Kashimawo Olawale Abiola and the dividends of democracy that Nigerians are enjoying have been said to be a great call for celebration.
This was asserted on Sunday by the Osun State Commissioner for Regional Integration and Special Duties, Engineer Olalekan AbdulRahman Badmus on the occasion of the celebration of June 12 Democracy Day in Osogbo.
According to Badmus, the journey into Nigeria’s fourth republic began on May 29, 1999 when the military government handed over the reins of power to civilian administration.
He added the country has since witnessed 23 years of unbroken democracy – the longest since independence in 1960.
“Two decades of unbroken civil rule, remembrance of Chief M.K.O Abiola and the dividends of democracy that Nigerians are enjoying call for celebration.
“The symbol of evolution democracy in the 4th Republic is the late business mogul and philanthropist Chief M.K.O Abiola GCFR who was widely acclaimed to have won the June 12, 1993 election that was annulled by the military administration of General Ibrahim Badamosi Babangida.
“Chief Abiola lost his life in the struggles to regain his hijacked mandate having been held in custody after the famous Epetedo declaration. Today, the rest is history.
We thank God for the immortalization of Chief M.K.O Abiola.” Badmus said.
Relatively, the Commissioner for Regional Integration and Special Duties furthermore stated that the Osun State Governor, Isiaka Adegboyega Oyetola has proved that success in the arts and science of governance are imbibed in his personality.
“Emotional intelligence, sincerity of purpose, honesty, integrity, compassion, focus, inclusiveness, creativity, commitment and dedication, virtues that our Governor posseses abundantly are essential to success in the arts and science of governance.
He subsequently charged the people of the state to vote for the second term of Governor Adegboyega Oyetola in the coming gubernatorial election in the state.
