The Nigerian youths have been advised to shun social vices as the Osun State Police Command threatened to wage war against cultism to curb the menace in the state.
This was contained in different addresses at the Police Campaign Against Cultism and Other Vices (POCACOV) held in Ede, Osun State on Thursday.
The guest speaker, Professor Joshua Ogunwole said cultism in Nigeria has transitioned to a menace, and it has deviated outrightly from its original ideal because there are a lot of youth across the country that unemployment engagement has taken dramatic turn of their life.
Professor Ogunwole who was represented by the Director of students support service, Bowen University, Doctor Ademola Aderibigbe also admonished government at all levels to create a curriculum for Primary and secondary School students, which will be about cultism and its danger.
Doctor Aderibigbe also challenged POCACOV that their operations in Osun state be Impacting the community as a whole, just as he urged media outlets to dedicate tranches of programmes to discuss cult related matters.
In his speech, the osun state commissioner of Police, Mr Olawale Olokode, said most Youths engaged in cultism due to peer group, illiteracy, bad parenting among others.
The commissioner of Police, who was represented by the assistance commissioner Of Police, MR. Yahya Abdulhassan, noted that cultism promotes crime in the society and he advised youths to shun cultism and other vices.
Earlier in his welcome address, the Timi of Ẹdẹ, Oba Munirudeen Adesola Lawal, lauded the efforts of the Nigerian Police force for bringing up the initiative to educate the youths on the dangers of cultism, stressing that students and youths should shun the menace which may have negative impact on their lives.
