Governor Adegboyega Oyetola-led government of Osun State has been appealed to immediately repair the collapse Oke-Ola/Bokusoro (Obate) Bridge in Iwo.
This is contained in a letter by O. Shittu who is Iwo Council Manager, and addressed to Permanent Secretary of the Osun State Ministry of Works and Transport, dated 28th of April, 2022 with the no PF/IWE/LCDA/220/06.
Shittu recounted that on Tuesday 26th April, 2022, Iwo and its environ was hit by another flooding which caused the collapse of a bridge at Oke-Ola/Bokusoro/Obate road.
According to him, the bridge is pivotal to Iwo, being in the heart of the town linking places such as Adeeke, Ibadan road, Palace square, Bowen University etc. The affected road is measured (16.5m x 11m) of 4.2m height.
“In the light of this, the State intervention is needed urgently to fix the bridge in no distant time to avoid the crumbling of the economic activities of the ancient town.
“While thanking you for your cooperation always, it will be much appreciated it necessary action is urgently taken in this regard.”
In the same lane, Iwoland Indigenes Council of Nigeria (IICN) in a statement dated 9th of May, 2022 by its Coordinator, Mr. Shola Isola call on the state need for immediate repair of the said road.
The letter is addressed to the the Chairman of Iwo East Local Council Development Area.
In his words, Mr. Isola said “for some weeks now, residents of Bokusoro-Aipate-oke Odo, has been disconnected from each other because of a part of the road that has caved in around Obate area,
“We are calling on your attention to this rond because we are in a raining season and more damages will be done if the broken part is not fixed as soon as possible.
“We strongly recommend that an immediate assessment of the site is done, a see caution banner be installed at the site and an advisory alternative route be issued to avoid casualties.
“However, an immediate repair needs to be done on the road because its a major road in our community. We look forward to a prompt response from your esteemed office.
Spokesperson, Okanlawon Taiwo Alabi said its efforts to ensure that the culvert on Okeola-Bokusoro-Aipate road has been taken over by some political actors.
The above, he described as an attempt to use a written letter by the local government to the state ministry of work as a tool to campaign against the ruling party.
“We hereby state categorically that we are not for or against any candidate or political party and we commend strongly any action of such by any political party.
“Politics should not me mixed with advocating for having a better society.
“To that effect, we hereby affirm our loyalty to the people of Iwoland and not any politician or any political party, our intention to making the statement public is to get the attention of the government and not as tool by any political party.” he partly said.
